Operating Drones/UAS Near Colorado Air and Space Port
Operating Drones/UAS Near Colorado Air and Space Port Operating a drone within five nautical miles of Colorado Air and Space Port is prohibited unless approved by the FAA directly or through the FAA's LAANC system, https://www.faa.gov/uas/programs_partnerships/data_exchange/ Prior to the FAA's policy for flying model aircraft or drones near an airport, the drone operator was required to obtain permission from the airport manager to operate near the airport.
Under the new rules, the Colorado Air and Space Port cannot approve requests to fly drones. Only the FAA can approve these requests. Drones may operate within the national airspace and are subject to oversight and regulations from the FAA.
Anything, to include drones/UAS, that leaves the surface and enters the national airspace, immediately falls under federal jurisdiction and oversight from the Federal Aviation Administration.
